Council approves fifth Avenue of Service
A week before our Rotaracters head into the battle zone (i.e exam hall), we are greeted with a piece of amazing news from RI. The “New Generations” has been officially recognized as the fifth Service Avenue in Rotary. This is a clear evidence of Rotary’s commitment to youth and also recognition to the contributions of young people to the Rotary’s cause as a whole.
Here is an extract of the news:

Rotary International News — 28 April 2010Representatives at the 2010 Council on Legislation approved an enactment 28 April to add a fifth Avenue of Service: New Generations.
….
New Generations joins Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, and International Service as the foundation of club activity. Before starting a project, Rotarians are asked to think broadly about how their club and its members could contribute within each avenue.
“It’s a significant change – a historic day in Rotary,” said Council Chair Mark Daniel Maloney. “Rotarians have always strongly supported youth activities even though they were never part of the four Avenues of Service. I think this strengthens our commitment.”
The Avenue of New Generations recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.

Thx Chiew Ee, a great piece of news while I was in Taiwan for our Goodwill Visit to D3500. This will be a first step in the right direction, hoping to see more cooperation and interaction between Rotary and New Gen, esp Rotaract and Interact
